Shared or dedicated hosting: when to move

Four signs that shared hosting is now limiting your site, and what moving actually gives you.

· updated 2026-10-07

Shared hosting is perfectly fine to start with. The problem is not price but that both resources and risk are shared with sites you know nothing about.

Four signs it is time

  • Unpredictable slowness. The same page loads in one second sometimes and five seconds other times — the neighbours are using the resources.
  • You hit process or memory limits. Product imports or report generation stop halfway.
  • You cannot change the configuration. You need a different PHP version, a Redis cache, dedicated cron jobs or a non-standard module.
  • Your IP is blacklisted because of someone else. On a shared server, sender reputation is shared too.

What dedicated resources give you

Guaranteed CPU and memory, independent of neighbours. Configuration tuned to your project: PHP-FPM worker count, Redis object cache, database parameters. And real isolation — another client’s breach stops being your problem.

When you do not need it yet

If the site is slow because of unoptimised images and twenty plugins, moving servers will not fix it — only make it more expensive. Measure where the time goes first; see the article on TTFB.

We provide dedicated setups with WordPress-tuned configuration through webhostas.com.
